Printer Buying Guide: How to Compare Printers?

The basic step to buying any printer is to evaluate your print jobs and decide what kind of a printer (Laser, Inkjet, or Multifunction) would be suitable for your printing tasks. Once you know which printer is suitable for your print jobs, do a thorough comparison. Here is what to look for while comparing printers and how to eliminate a printer from your list.

1) You already know the printing tasks that are desired from your printer. Go through the specifications of each printer. Simply eliminate the printer that does not fit into its desired role.

2) Identify the important features that would help you in your printing task. Eliminate the printers which do not have much of the needed features.

3) Look online for Reviews. Read both Expert and User Reviews. Narrow down your list based on the reviews. Simply put, remove the printers with bad reviews from your list.

4) Evaluate the true cost of printing and ownership. Know how much the printer supplies would cost. How frequently would you need to replace these printer supplies? Estimate the cost per page value of toner cartridges. Once you have all the data, rate the remaining printers according to this data. You’ll see that a printer might not be expensive but printer supplies raise the cost of printing and ownership. Eliminate the printers that make you sweat.

5) Last but not the least, do a price comparison of the remaining printers. By now you have all the data in hand. Do a price comparison and see how much actually a printer would cost you. You may find some retailers offering the printer for fewer prices than others.

Follow the above steps and you’ll reach a point where you can easily figure out what is the best printer for you. I would always advise do compare printers thoroughly before you buy one.
